Since time immemorial, the vineyards have thrived on the Lebanese soil, making Lebanon one of oldest wine producer in the world. It was on this land in the Bekaa Valley that the Ancient Romans built a gorgeous temple and dedicated it to Bacchus the god of wine.
In the heart of the Bekaa on the
slope of the Barouk Mountain lies the village of Kefraya. Known for many
decades as the major supplier of grapes to be used in wine production,
the village was and still the annual meeting place of the wine merchants
in search of grapes. As a result of this trend many farmers devote their
ancestral know-how to invest in new vineyards making the village the heritage
wine producing center of Lebanon. Eventually, the village became the first
place in Lebanon whose economy revolved solely around viticulture
